.Threads on all products in this standard, except lag screws, shall meet the requirements of ASME B1.1. For lag screw thread dimensions, please see the standard. Thread series on all bolts and screws may be coarse (UNC), fine (UNF), or 8 thread series (8 UN), except askew head bolts, which shall be unified coarse (UNC) only, and lag screws,
This thread unit has the advantage of both square and V-threads. It has a low frictional resistance characteristic of the square thread and has the same strength as that of a V-thread. The spindles of bench vices are usually provided with buttress threads. 9. Metric thread. It is an Indian standard thread and is similar to B.S.W. threads.
The design principles of ISO general-purpose metric screw threads (“M” series threads) are defined in international standard ISO 68-1. Each thread is characterized by its major diameter and its pitch. ISO metric threads consist of symmetric V-shaped thread. In the plane of the thread axis, the flanks of the V have an angle of 60° to each other.
I then learn that one party is using thread gages produced in the United States to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Standard B1.16 and the other party is using thread gages made to the ISO Standard 1502. The conflict arises most frequently on the inspection of external threads where the parties are each using ring gages.

Of these, th e square thread is the most efficient, but it is also the most difficult to cut owing to its pa rallel sides and it cannot be adjusted to compen

The Acme threads thus can be used
The ACME thread was developed as a compromise, to offer better strength than a V-form while overcoming the problems with the square thread form. The thread angle is 29°. Advertising: Nominal. Diameter. Major. Diameter. Inch. Major.

Example Problem 18-3: Acme Threads (cont’d.) • Find the power. • For obtaining the same rate, drive speed would need to be changed by ratio of leads. • This value reflects the lower efficiency of an acme versus a square thread. 17 Problem 18-7 • For the bottle jack shown, using a 1½-inch square thread, f = .15, and •Screw Thread- A ridge of uniform section in the form of a helix on the external or internal surface of a cylinder. •Major Diameter – The largest diameter of a screw thread. •Minor Diameter- The smallest diameter of a screw thread. Square threads are defined as follows by ISO standards: where Sq designates a square thread, 60 is the nominal diameter in millimeters, and 9 is the pitch in millimeters. When there is no suffix it is a single start thread. If there is a suffix then the value after the multiplication sign is the lead and the value in the parentheses is the pitch.
